We're proud to offer a unique and different take on the usual concept of a guided walking tour - we invite you to join our knowledgeable local guide for a one-part guided walking tour along the northern stretch of the city walls of Dubrovnik, where you'll hear about the history of the walls, learn how and when they were built, who the enemies of Dubrovnik were and much more, and then continue to discover the southern half of the walls on your own! We've carefully listened to our guests' pain points and have come up with the ideal hybrid combo where you'll experience the walls both in a small-group setting and at your own pace, giving you plenty of time and freedom to stop for photos, refreshments or simply to admire the stunning architecture and amazing views, without the pressure of being in a group. Our tour begins at Ploče gate, from where we'll climb up to the walls at the eastern entrance, which has less stairs and fewer people than the main entrance. The guided walk along the northern stretch features nine stops, each carefully planned and designed to provide you with an insight into Dubrovnik's rich history, both ancient as well as modern. We'll talk about the major fortifications, you'll hear about medieval warfare, cannons, smart diplomacy of the old Dubrovnik and how it survived as an independent city-state between the historic political giants such as Venice and the Ottoman Empire. We'll also cover the most recent war in Croatia and the attacks on Dubrovnik in 1991. You will also learn about the everyday life inside the Old town and how many people actually live within the walls today. At the half-way point, say goodbye to your friendly local guide and, enriched with new knowledge, feel free to continue walking the rest of the walls at your own pace! The southern part is for your pleasure - admire the Adriatic sea, take in the views, stop as many times as you want and for as long as you want - you have the freedom! If you want to stop for a drink at one of the bars, you can do that, without feeling awkward about holding the group - that's the beauty of self-exploration! You will have plenty of time to complete the full circle around the walls. Before you part ways, your guide will tell you where else you can use your entrance tickets for the walls, how long they're open and, if you want, give you recommendations on what else to see and where to go, be it museums, restaurants or any other things that you may be interested in doing. - Please keep in mind that there are lots of stairs on the city walls of Dubrovnik! The tour covers five sets of stairs, both going up and down, from the entrance to the half-way point. At some places, the walls are quite high and the stairs are steep. Please take this into consideration. Also, the southern stretch, which you will walk on your own, on certain places has narrow walkways. Remember - the walls are a medieval structure, a military complex built hundreds of years ago - don't expect the walls to be super-comfortable and easy at all times. ;)
