Description

Start your tour with the bronze model of the historic old town of Split, on the palm-lined waterfront promenade – Riva. Your live guide will show you the layout of the ancient palace and explain how the Roman residence gradually transformed into a real city. From there, continue your exploration through the central part of the palace's basements, one of the best-preserved areas of the Roman complex. These underground spaces allow you to understand the original layout of the imperial apartments that once stood above. Go to the Peristyle, the ceremonial center of Diocletian's Palace and one of the most impressive ancient sites in Split. Admire the Cathedral of St Doimus and its bell tower from the outside, the entrance to the Vestibule, the ancient columns, the sphinxes, and the surrounding palatial architecture. Learn about the role of this space in the Roman era and how it was later integrated into the religious and civic life of the city. Continue your tour to Jupiter's Temple (from the outside), the Vestibule, the Silver Gate, the Golden Gate, and the statue of Gregory of Nin, one of Split's most iconic monuments. Throughout your tour, discover the Roman palace, the architecture, religion, daily life, the transformation of ancient spaces, and the city's survival through different historical periods. After exploring the Roman heart, continue your discovery in the medieval and later districts of Split. Visit the Piazza, also known as People's Square, and cross Fruit Square, one of the most charming historic squares in the city. Then continue to Marmont Street, Prokuracije Square, and the area of the St. Francis church and monastery, before returning to the beachside promenade where we started our tour – the Riva.
