Description

Step into a village blacksmith's workshop outside Split and learn the ancient craft of hand-forging metal. These are the same techniques Croatian smiths have used for generations. Working one-on-one with a local blacksmith, you'll heat, hammer, and shape your own fork, knife, or bottle opener on a traditional anvil, then take it home as a souvenir you actually made. Arrive at the blacksmith's workshop in a village outside Split, where you'll be welcomed with a drink of your choice — rakija, coffee, or tea — served alongside bread, cheese, and prosciutto. Once settled, join the blacksmith at the forge to learn the basics of traditional metalworking: heating metal to the right temperature, hammering and shaping it on the anvil, and (depending on the item) fitting a wooden handle. Choose to forge a knife, fork, or bottle opener, and work alongside the blacksmith to bring it to life. Your item will be finished in time for dinner. Plus, you'll get to put it straight to use, helping carve the meat or meal you'll share together before heading back.

Important Information

• We will provide an apron, safety glasses and gloves for use with blacksmithing, but we recommend wearing solid shoes that will help protect your feet from any falling sparks.
