My husband and I had dinner here tonight on the recommendation of our hotel. What a gem! Our waiter Tony made the most amazing recommendations for food and wine and was very knowledgeable about both. The star of the show was salad with octopus in it, nuts, crunchy sweet potatoes and a delicious dressing. I normally don’t eat octopus but this one was so tender and flavorful. Also enjoyed sea bass in a salt crust and local white wine. The service was impeccable and the location tucked away from the crowds in a quiet courtyard was just what we needed. We will always remember our night here.

The food was exquisite, and so was the service. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and helpful. As a solo diner, it was a bit too quiet and removed from the excitement of Old Town Split, but it was still lovely. Highly recommend the sea bass!

Very special place. Recommended by our food tour guide this morning and it was fantastic. We ordered the lobster and pasta and beef ans pasta. Both were very memorable. The service is 100% five star. Same with the atmosphere.

My husband and I had a lovely evening at Makarun. The food was excellent: beautifully presented, creative without being pretentious and full of flavor. But beyond the dishes themselves, there was a strong sense of place behind the experience: the restaurant is family-run, vegetables come from their own garden, the pasta is rolled by the granny, and the wines showcase the best of the country. Those details genuinely shape the atmosphere of the meal. The setting is equally memorable. Hidden inside a peaceful courtyard within Diocletian's Palace, Makarun feels surprisingly removed from the crowds outside. It's a quiet corner where you can slow down and enjoy the evening despite being in the heart of Split's busiest area. The service deserves special praise as well. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional throughout. I’m happy to recommend to anyone looking for a stellar introduction to Dalmatian hospitality and heritage.
