Our visit to Kiyomi was an exceptional night out from a food perspective. It was all about the quality, rather than quantity of each course, all of which we shared. We started with miso soup, very tasty and refreshing. This was followed by chicken dumplings and har gao (seafood dumplings), again superb. Final courses were chicken satay, chicken teriyaki and grilled brocholini, all delicious. Slightly on the pricy side all up, but well worth it. Only disappointment was that the restaurant has moved to online menus via QR code and even online ordering. This detracts from the service standard, as it is awkward and confusing. I think traditional service, like discussing options with a staff member who takes the order, is much more appropriate in a high quality establishment.
We were walking around the center of Zagreb hungry and tired until we’ve stumbled on this gem. First of all, ambience - top notch. Very cozy and with incredible little details that you can joyfully look at while you are waiting for the food (spoiler: you won’t have much time as the food is served incredibly fast) Now, the food. I can’t express with words how delicious everything was. We’ve tried Chirashi, Toro Tartar and Spicy Tuna Uramaki, not that it was just tasty, but it was on a different level of anything I’ve tried in Croatia so far. Kudos to the chef. I’ve also tried the Skinny Nami cocktail - AMAZING to say the least. Making a cocktail that keeps and opens up the flavor while being slowly diluted with clarified ice - that’s mastery. Also wanted to mention the staff and especially Mitch - she was a delight and absolute pleasure to be served by. Overall this place is an experience when you come there expecting just another Japanese restaurant but you walk out with a wide smile, deep satisfaction and a plan to come there again.
Food was beautifully presented and very tasty, portions were good and the price-quality ratio is great. It’s actually not expensive compared to many similar places. The cocktails are amazing – big and really good. The interior is stunning with great attention to detail. We were served by Sasha and were very happy with his service. Only small note: it might be better not to correct colleagues in front of guests, as everything can be heard and it slightly affects the atmosphere. Overall, a great experience and I would definitely come back.
The hand-rolled sushi was fine, though I expected a little more. I also really wish the salmon had remained raw instead of being steamed. The grilled oysters were surprisingly good if you had told me it was meat, I honestly would not have been able to tell the difference. The bass ceviche was one of the best dishes there: perfectly fresh, citrusy, and honestly hard to beat. The eggplant pesto with nuts was my favorite dish and the one I would definitely recommend. And if you want something aesthetically pleasing as well, the sesame ball was amazing. The lamb skewers and pork chops were okay. The layered potato was top notch, though a little more sauce would have made it perfect. Last but not least, the matcha mochi dessert was nice, but it felt a bit heavy. I think some lychee with it would have been a great touch. All in all, the staff were polite, constantly available, and clearly made a big effort to go the extra mile with their kindness.
We had an amazing dinner at Kiyomi! Hands down our favorite restaurant while visiting Zagreb. The place has a great vibe, the service was excellent, everyone was very attentive and kind. The cocktails are a must, and the food was 10/10. Highlights were the dumplings and the Sunita’s momo. Highly recommended this place.
