Was craving seafood so I found this place on Google Maps. They have fresh fish that you can order by kilogram. I took the filet fish platter that has some sauce on it and comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Enjoyed my meal and would definitely recommend it. The waiter was friendly and the place was nice and cozy.
Ordered the fish platter for 2 and it has to be some of the best seafood I’ve had, 100% worth the price. On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive the whole time. The restaurant is situated in a quieter part of the center so it doesn’t feel crowded or busy or noisy at all. Definitely recommend this place if you’re around. The beef carpaccio is also delectable so I also recommend that
I have no idea how the rating is this low. It's also a shame its location means most people stop at generic pizza eateries before they get to this genuine treasure of authentic Croatian cuisine. I had read the one of the best dishes in Croatia was the Gregada, a fish stew with origins back in the Illyrian times. I figured if they're still making it, then it must be good. A Google search in Split gave me the names of 2 authentic Croatian restraunts that served the dish. The other was closed on Sundays, so here we are and boy are we happy. Fast and good service, clean setting, and the Gregada for 2 people arrived to our table in a huge pot. Everything in it was good, the octopus, the shrimp, the tuna the sea bass, the cuttlefish and lots of tasty potatoes. Tasty because the broth was sensational and lifted everything up. We ordered additional bread just to mop up juices on our plates. It was good value too, as we both ate to satiation and there was still plenty left. We had enough space left for some last spoonfuls of the broth though. Tasted it for long afterwards. Our only disappointment was we were not allowed to kiss the chef.
We had an amazing dinner with an amazing service. Our waiter was kind, attentive and funny. The risotto and the octopus were delicious but the Matejuska salad was impressive. We loved the sauce very much. Definitely a place to go again when in Croatia
If you visit Konoba Matejuška, you absolutely HAVE to try their scallop carpaccio! It was easily the highlight of our dinner. The presentation alone is beautiful, but the taste is next level. The scallops were incredibly fresh, buttery, and sliced to perfection. The combination of the citrusy dressing, fresh herbs, and those toasted pine nuts on top added the perfect crunch and balance. It's so light, refreshing, and packed with flavor. Huge compliments to the chef for this masterpiece! 100% recommended, we’ll definitely be coming back for more.
