Pula and Motovun Tour and Truffle Hunting
Istria is one of the most popular destinations in Croatia. With a strong Italian influence, this certainly is a beautiful region of Croatia both along the coast and inland, with its pretty hilltop towns.
Highlights
- Experience Istria region
- Explore the Roman remains in Pula
- Try your luck with truffles
- Visit the 6th largest Roman Amphiteatre in Pula
Description
Istria has become known for its incredible truffles - especially the white truffle that can rival those of Italian regions of Alba and Piedmont. Truffles were loved by the Romans - they were believed to have grown as the result of God Jupiter throwing a lightning to an oak tree. On this trip, you will visit two cities. The first is Pula - the largest city in Istria. The most famous sight in Pula – of course – is the Roman amphitheatre, which is called The Arena. Built during the 1st century AD and completed under the reign of Emperor Flavius, the amphitheatre is the sixth largest in the world (of those that still exist). Motovun is an ancient Istrian acropolis city situated on the top of a 277 meter-high hill whose current appearance originates from the Middle Ages, the 12th and 13th century. The longest Istrian stairway with 1052 stairs leads to the top of the Motovun hill and its Venetian city square.Includes
